Nadal is a more complete player than Federer
Ah, Nads versus Feds, my favorite rivalry in tennis at the moment.
Some guy in SC seems to think Nadal is the better of the two - while I am a huge Nadal fan, I am not so sure about this argument:
I've just figured out why Rafael Nadal dominates Roger Federer in head-to-head meetings. Throw out the five-year age difference. Nadal is the better player.
Why?
I've come to the conclusion that Nadal, not Federer, is men's tennis' most complete player.
After seeing Nadal open up his summer hard-court season Tuesday, I'm having a hard time finding one area of the game in which Federer is superior. Nadal not only appears to have the advantage in strength, movement and conditioning, but also in ability at the net.
Nadal was an animal in manhandling Nicolas Massu, 6-3, 6-2, in his first match in the Toronto Masters. He simply out-worked the Chilean. Nadal was as good as he is on clay, power-hitting big forehands, returning everything Massu could throw at him.
The only thing Nadal needs to improve is his service return, though Massu's pop-gun serve is one of the most difficult to handle in men's tennis. Post and Courier
Interesting - but as much as I like to heckle Feds and complain about him, I think he definitely wins in the style of play category.
1 Comments:
Federer's technique is much more natural than Nadal's. Nadal claims (too) much of his body I think.
Federer has so many weapons on hard court. When he hits a forehand inside out, it's 95% of the times a winner. On clay, Nadal can return some of those shots, on faster surfaces like grass and hard court, he can't return them.
If Federer stays cool, he will be capable of beating Nadal
